Caring for Your Lawn in the Winter

lawn care kent

As the snow piles up and buries our yards, we often forget about the lawn beneath it. But winter lawn care in Kent is something that we should keep in mind, even when the temperature dips below freezing. By following a few tips, your grass will be ready to flourish when spring starts to persuade everything to grow.

After the First Frost

If you’re still mowing your lawn after the first frost, it’s a good idea to stop. Although the grass may still be growing very slowly, continual mowing can dry it out, cause bare patches, and make recovery challenging in the spring.

Protect the Area

A sparkling expanse of snow across your lawn is beautiful, and it’s best to leave it that way. While it’s tempting to build a snowman on snow days, constant traffic on your lawn can damage brittle grass blades and prevent them from growing in lush and healthy when the snow is gone.

Watch for Water Build-Up

As snow melts, it can leave puddles in areas with poor drainage and cause issues. Ensure water can easily flow away from your lawn to prevent small floods, and your grass will thank you.

Caring for the lawn in winter may seem counterintuitive, but protecting your expanse of brown during the winter will ensure a sea of green in the summer.
