How Parking Lot Sweeping Has Changed Over Time

You don’t have to go too far back to find a world where there was no parking lot-sweeping industry. Before the 1960s, you would discover employees tasked with going outside and sweeping their respective parking lots with brooms or other antiquated, inefficient sweeping technologies. Thankfully, change was in the wind, and by the late 1950s, parking lot sweeping services in Seattle started to become available to business owners.

Now that there were people helping businesses save time and money on the workforce by handling their comprehensive services, it was only a matter before the industry began to advance and grow. The first significant change was the introduction of MASCO sweepers in the 1970s. Replacing the small go-kart sweepers that came before them, MASCO sweepers could quickly and easily clean lots—picking up much of the debris earlier sweepers couldn’t collect. Now that the modern sweeper truck had been invented, cities across the globe started introducing their own sweeper companies—and industry was truly born.

The late 1980s saw another massive boost in the industry with the introduction of News Sweep and SuperVac Quarterly. These two newspapers for the sweeping commercial industry introduced advancing technology as soon as it was available, leading to the first-ever power-sweeping organization being founded.

Parking lot sweeping has only continued to advance since that time, with new and better ways of cleaning up debris being introduced. We have come a long way from hauling brooms and trash cans across lots.
