Why Is Street Sweeping So Important?
Think about how many different cars
and trucks drive up and down the different roads you take on a daily basis.
Think about how often you see someone toss out a can, cigarette butt, or piece
of gum from their car window. Now think about how often you see a pile of
rubbish in the middle or on the side of the road.
Streets, parking lots, highways,
and every other type of road in-between see a lot of action on a day-to-day
basis, which means it is necessary for someone to come by and clean up after
everybody. That is the role of the street sweeper in Washington.
These are the people going out and keeping our roads clean and safe so that we
can drive down them without fear of running into piles of trash or residue. A
street sweeper’s job is to:
Improve the Appearance of Roads – Regular cleaning not only helps to improve the look of the
street itself, but also the aesthetic of the entire neighborhood the street is
located in.
Improve the Safety of Roads –
Lots of trash and debris can end up causing road hazards to drivers. Skidding,
sliding, colliding, and tire punctures are all real threats when a road is
covered in litter or residue.
Help the Environment –
Having a road cleaned on a regular basis helps to reduce the amount of waste
particles being spread around. This reduces the risk to the fauna and flora of
the area.
